Halstab began suppling Pb based stabilizers to the PVC wire and cable industry in 1971. As time progressed, the need for non-Pb containing product alternatives became evident. Halstab addressed this need with a complete line of highly innovative products, some of which have UL approval for primary insulation for building wire. These products are mostly powders, and are supplied in a variety of packages depending on the customers requirements.
Halstab Powder Stabilizers are used both as primary and secondary stabilizers for stabilizing both flexible and rigid PVC. These products are highly formulated and normally tailored for the customer's specific application and process equipment. Halstab Powder Stabilizers can be mixed with liquids to provide cost savings in production, or can be used by themselves for such applications as the manufacture of floor tile and cove base, as well as rigid applications like window profile, fencing and wood filled decking.
The Plastistab line of mixed metal liquid heat stabilizers is based on combinations of calcium, barium and zinc; all products are cadmium free. These stabilizers find use primarily in flexible PVC, and are used at very low use levels but can have a major impact on processing and application properties; all are made using Halstab's unique technology for making liquid metal organics. The products find use in end use applications ranging from floor tile and calendered sheet to such specialty applications as medical examination gloves, blood bags, toys and automotive body side molding.
Plastistab stabilizer building blocks are sold around the world primarily to manufacturers of liquid mixed metal stabilizers. These products are unique, highly technical and widely patented. Most are overbased carbonated highly concentrated liquids of barium, calcium and zinc. Many of these have been developed for a specific need in a geographic area. Halstab Plastistab building blocks allow stabilizers to be made with optimal color, very low phenol content and decreased VOC. These products enable very high efficiency stabilizers to be made through utilization of unique overbasing technology yielding extremely high metal content.
